Design and Manufacturing Processes Based on Information Management

In Design and Manufacturing processes, the role of the underlying information is of the utmost importance. If information is managed in a formal, structured way, it can serve as a basis for the control of processes. Based on a reference model and three information structures, the entire product creation process can be formulated in terms of the information requirements of distinct processes. The correlation between processes can be established by so-called task chains. Using a formal representation of the information content (an ontology), a flexible resolution of process-steps is achieved. The publication expatiates on the control of design and manufacturing processes based on information content. Related publications focus on applications in cost estimation and process planning.
